Our Work

Freedom to Ride

Free to roam, free to explore, free to be a kid.

This summer, Hagamos Vaca is hosting Freedom Rides—a community bike clinic for kids in West Point and the families who raise them. It’s more than a one-day event. It’s a celebration of motion, confidence, and connection.

For many kids, a bike isn’t just a toy—it’s their first real taste of freedom. A symbol of independence. Of movement. Of growing up and finding your place in the world. And for immigrant families, that freedom carries even more meaning. It’s about belonging. It’s about being seen. It’s about joy.

At Freedom Rides, we’re putting bikes into the hands of kids who’ve never had one. We’re teaching new riders how to pedal proud and ride safe. And we’re making sure every child leaves with the gear they need and the feeling that they matter.

Because every child deserves the freedom to ride—and every family deserves to feel like they’re part of something bigger. But to do it, we need your help.

About

What’s Happening at Freedom Rides

It’s not just a bike clinic—it’s a celebration. At Freedom Rides, we’re creating a day full of movement, joy, and connection for kids and families in West Point. Whether it’s a child riding a bike for the very first time or decorating their helmet with stickers and streamers, this event is about more than mechanics. It’s about community.

Here’s what you’ll find at Freedom Rides:

Bike Giveaway + Learn-to-Ride Lessons
We’ll have bikes ready for kids who don’t have one of their own (while supplies last!), along with volunteers helping new riders learn how to balance, brake, and ride with confidence.

Bike Tune-Up & Safety Station
Our repair crew will be on-site to make sure every bike leaves in great shape—checking tires, tightening bolts, and offering basic maintenance tips. We’ll also help kids get properly fitted for helmets and go over riding safety in both English and Spanish.

Craft + Customization Corner
Every bike should feel like it belongs to you. That’s why we’ll have a decoration station where kids can personalize their bikes and helmets with stickers, handlebar streamers, spoke beads, and bike name tags—because pride starts with ownership.

Cool-Down + Snack Zone
Summer heat is no joke. We’ll have plenty of cold drinks, snacks, and shady spots for kids and parents to rest, refuel, and connect with neighbors.

Belonging Table
We’ll also have a space with community resources—information on local services, ways to get involved with Hagamos Vaca, and space for families to share stories and be heard.

Freedom isn’t just a word. It’s a ride.

In order to make Freedom Rides a reality this summer, we need your help. More than anything else, we need your financial support to pull this off.

But if you can’t chip in, we’re also looking for:

  • Gently used or new kids’ bikes

  • Helmets of all sizes

  • Drinks to beat the summer heat

  • Hot dogs, hamburgers, and all the fixings

  • Volunteers to fix bikes, fit helmets, and cheer kids on

If you can help with any of these resources, shoot us an email.
